A Brief History of

Lodge Good Fellowship No. 71 G.L.I

Lodge Good Fellowship was founded in the year 1908 by the united effort of a group of eminent citizens of Calcutta, holding high Masonic ranks. It would be of interest to note that most of the founders were keenly alive as well to the social need of the city and had removed the long felt want of an important club in Calcutta, by the foundation of the Calcutta Club.

The preliminary meeting for the formation of the Good Fellowship Lodge was held at 6-15 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 1908 at the premises of the Calcutta Club which was situated at that time at No. 17, Elysium Row. The inaugural meeting was held at Freemason Hall, 54, Park Street (now No. 19), Calcutta, on Wednesday, March II, 1908 at 6-30 p.m. when the Lodge was duly consecrated by W. Bro. George Lane Anderson, Deputy District Grand Master of Bengal.

During the hundred years of its existence, the Lodge has maintained a steady and sustained progress, although like all the other important institutions it has had to face periods of stress and strained times. Many of the founders used to take keen and active interest in the affairs of the Lodge until they were called to the Grand Lodge above. They were a band of brothers who rose to great eminence by merit, they lived respected and died regretted.
